Why every standard GoPro wakeboard angle disappoints
1. Boat and tower mounts are too far away. A wakeboard rope is 55 to 75 feet long. GoPro's wide lens makes far things look farther. From the tower you are a small figure in a big frame — you can tell that a trick happened, but you cannot see it. Boat and tower footage is documentation, not video.
2. Board mounts film mostly legs. Mounting to the fin screws puts the lens inches from your bindings. You get a great view of your shins and the underside of your board. Airs and rotations are largely invisible because the camera goes wherever the board goes.
3. Helmet and POV mounts are unwatchable. Every head movement becomes camera movement. Viewers cannot tell what trick was performed or how high it went. POV works for first-person immersion; it does not work for showing what you did.
4. Handheld and selfie sticks compromise the ride. You cannot ride properly with one hand occupied, and you are one wipeout away from an expensive lesson in buoyancy.
5. Suction cups on the transom are a gamble. If the tow rope loads against a suction cup mount, the rope wins. That is a GoPro on the lake bottom.

Tips for getting the most from a rope-mounted GoPro
Add rope floats near the mount. Any weight on a rope pulls the handle down. Foam floaties placed near the mount keep everything at the surface and keep your camera well clear of its 33-foot depth rating.
Use "medium" field of view, not "wide." GoPro's wide lens exaggerates distance. At six feet, medium reads far more naturally.
Shoot 1080p at 120fps for social. Instagram will resize whatever you give it, and 120fps gives you slow motion in the edit.
Rain-X the lens. Water spots have ruined more first-ever-landed tricks than crashes have.
Bring a spare battery and card. High frame rates eat both.
